Brown-Daly-Horne House
The Brown-Daly-Horne House in Pulaski, Tennessee, built in 1869, has a rich history, having housed a governor, congressman, and other notable figures. When John and Cynthia Lancaster purchased the home in 2021, they aimed to transform it into an event space and bed and breakfast while restoring its 19th-century charm.
The house had been a bank for 44 years, requiring extensive renovations. John, president of the Giles County Historical Society, and Cynthia, a historic interior design graduate, prioritized preserving original materials. Their project was more of a rehabilitation than a strict restoration, integrating modern amenities while maintaining key historical elements.
The Brindley Construction team first focused on exterior work to avoid disrupting bank operations. This included restoring the porch, fencing, and wood trim. Once the bank vacated, we removed bank fixtures, revealing opportunities to restore the original interior. We matched new hardwood floors to the existing ones, preserved wallpaper, and updated electrical and plumbing systems for the new bed and breakfast purpose.
The project encountered challenges, such as deteriorating decorative elements, which led the team to create custom molds for replacements. We navigated structural integrity concerns and adjusted plans as the project evolved, including sourcing hard-to-find electrical breakers late.
Now complete, the house features two parlors, a boardroom available for rent, serves as a bed and breakfast, and hosts tea parties.
